Whatsapp is to adopt the feature from Facebook; currently it is in test phase
Messaging app Whatsapp is all set to adopt a feature from Facebook that is posting coloured text status. The feature was first introduced in Facebook last year and it is expected to be introduced to Whatsapp soon. Currently, the feature is in testing phase and available in Android beta v2.17.291 version of the messaging app.
However, this feature is available for only a select number of users. The users who can avail the feature now see a floating pen icon in the status tab right at the bottom of the screen and above the camera icon. By clicking on that pen icon, the user can type the status and choose his favourite font as well along with emoji and background colour.
When the user is done typing the status he or she can hit the green arrow icon to sent the status, which is similar as sending the media content over Whatsapp. It will be then published and available for view by all other persons in the contact list of the user.
To compete with Snapchat Whatsapp introduced the status feature in February 2017 and removed the test status feature. This action received mixed reaction from the users and prompted Whatsapp to bring back the text staus feature. Now with the update to give a coloured background, customised font and emijis, the status feature is likely to become more popular and it will certainly make the messaging more interesting.
However, it is not sure when the feature will be available for all the users across the world. But, as the feature is already available for select number of Android Beta users, the full version is likely to be available soon. Therefore all you will need to do is update the messaging app to its latest version. iOS users too are likely to receive the update alongside the Android users.
