Willow TV has acquired the exclusive media rights in the United States for Vivo IPL 2017
Willow TV has secured the exclusive media rights for the Indian Premier League 2017 in the United States. This is the second time, the primary broadcaster for cricket in North America has acquired the broadcast right in US for IPL. Earlier in 2014 also, the TV broadcasted IP in US, setting records for cricket viewership in the country.
Speaking about the IPL 2017 broadcast right acquisition for US audience, Mr. Vijay Srinivasan, Chief Executive Officer of Willow has said, the broadcaster is delighted to bring exclusive live coverage of the IPL 2017 to its viewers across television and other digital platforms. IPL is one of the leading professional cricket tournaments in the world and it has a record breaking fan attendance and multimedia consumption as well.
In US, viewer interest for cricket is increasing in recent times. More than 1.4 million viewers watched the ICC World Twenty20 on Willow TV in 2016. Inspired by the success, Willow is expecting to get more viewers attracted toward the IPL 2017, with the tournament scheduled to begin from 5th April. Willow says, the cricket fans in United States are in for a treat.
This will be the 10th season of the Indian Premier League and the tournament will start with the defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad playing against last year’s runner up Royal Challengers Bangalore. The entire tournament will comprise a total of 60 matches, which will be played over 47 days in several venues across India. Final is scheduled on 21st May. Willow TV will bring the US viewers live coverage of all the 60 matches.
